Eligibility To Work In New Zealand

Destination: New Zealand

Passport

Unless you hold a New Zealand (or Australian Passport or have the right to work), you will require a visa to work in New Zealand.

Requirements for New Zealand Work or Residence visa or permits vary greatly depending on factors such as nationality and skills - and most call for you to have a job offer before being obtainable. To support your application your potential employer needs to establish that you are eligible and that there are no New Zealanders available to do the work. This largely depends on the type of job being offered and your skills and experience in doing that job. You must also meet the Government’s health and character requirements, and your qualifications and work experience must be verified.

If you are a resident of the UK or Republic of Ireland looking to work in New Zealand, contact the New Zealand Immigration Service (in London) on 09069 100 100 or visit www.immigration.govt.nz.

myJobCaddy requires you to be eligible to work in New Zealand before we are able to assist you with your job-hunting there. Summarised below are the most commonly used visas; if you require further information Contact Us and we can put you in touch with reputable visa providers.

Residence and Work to Residence visas and permits

If you meet Immigration New Zealand criteria, and they believe you will settle successfully and contribute to New Zealand, you will be offered a residence visa or permit.

If they believe you have the potential, but want to see how you settle you may be given a work to residence visa or permit, which can be used to help obtain an offer of skilled employment in New Zealand for up to nine months. If you obtain skilled employment in this time you will have shown your ability to settle and contribute, then your residence application will be approved.
